IntegrationNuke fits perfectly into VFX pipelines and makes it easy for artists to customise and tightly integrate new tools. The control of processing and the user interface uses standard Python scripting, or artists can drill down to the industry standard OFX image processing plug-in API and the in-depth NDK Nuke developers kit.
User InterfaceSaveable layouts, customisation capabilities and quick navigation features make managing large, complex composites easier than ever.
ChoiceNuke is available on Windows®, Linux® and Mac OS X® – all at equal cost. Licenses float across operating systems, so every artist can work where they are most comfortable and creative and offline batch rendering can be at its most efficient.
The features inside NUKEX add up to deliver a compositing solution which is much more than just the sum of its parts.
NUKEX has all the essential features of NUKE extended with an integrated 3D camera tracker, depth generator, tools for automatic lens distortion correction and FURNACECORE, the nucleus of The Foundry's Academy Award©-winning FURNACE technology.
NUKEX gives artists greater creative freedom through an integrated workflow, dramatically increasing the efficiency of core compositing tasks. The extended tools within NUKEX allow artists to work efficiently, interactively and in context of the visual effects process - not easy with a separate stand-alone application.
Direct access to the scene and camera geometry provided by the camera tracker can dramatically increase the efficiency and accuracy of core compositing tasks, such as the 3D scene reconstruction, texture re-projection, animated rotoscoping and clean plate generation
FURNACECORE and the automatic lens analysis increase productivity by automating some fo the relatively pedestrian tasks, leaving artists free to concentrate on more creative work - tasks such as wire and rig removal, retiming, noise and grain removal and matching CGI with live action material.
MARI is a creative texture-painting tool that can handle extreme projects. MARI was developed at Weta Digital to handle the massively complex, highly detailed look development work demanded of the texture department by projects such as District 9, The Lovely Bones, and Avatar.
MARI has a creative toolset which puts many stand-alone 2D paint systems to shame, allowing artists to concentrate on painting. The user interface is responsive and fluid. You can paint directly on to models and view the results immediately. Save time and take texturing way beyond what was previously possible.
MARI's unrivalled ability to deal with colossal textures in vast numbers allows their development in intense detail
SpeedSave time and money by seeing the results of your work immediately. Cut down on revisions. Wave goodbye to the paint, render, review, rinse, repeat cycle of old. Load all the textures for a model into MARI simultaneously and remove the need to split up models.
PaintA creative painting toolset second to none, focused on the artists' needs. With a paintbrush engine finessed under intense production pressure, MARI releases artists from arbitrary restraints and allows them to work naturally with the model.
ContextIn VFX work, context is everything. What the model will look like in motion, from multiple angles and against the background plate, is critical. MARI lets the artists see the model in context and paint on it right there.
AnimationTextures channels need to change over time. Whether it is a blushing maiden or scratched and dented armour, animating textures are a crucial part of what makes a model appear real. MARI lets you animate and paint your texture channels frame by frame.
WorkflowEfficient Integration into a complex workflow turns a great product into a powerhouse. MARI has an open and extensible approach to UI, geometry, cameras and shading, and runs on Linux. It supports colour management, light and texture change, while import and export happen in the background.
User InterfaceA clear and intuitive user interface allows artists to focus on what is important. User-configurable tool shelves allow them to organise their workspace efficiently, and a customisable real-time 3D shader lets them see what they're doing.
What does 'mari' mean?MARI comes from the Swahili Maridadi meaning both 'beautiful' and also carrying connotations of 'usefulness'.
OCULA is a unique collection of plug-in tools that solve common problems with stereoscopic imagery, boost productivity in post production, and ultimately help to deliver a more rewarding stereoscopic viewing experience.
The plug-ins are designed to automatically replicate key processes on left and right channels and help artists polish and refine stereoscopic material, literally, removing headaches from the final viewing experience.
OCULA 2.0, created by The Foundry's Sci-Tech Award-winning R&D team, has considerable workflow improvements to better control the calibration of stereo sequences, as well as new algorithms to perform image corrections and disparity map generation. The toolset also gains additional functionality with the ability to generate disparity maps from CG depth maps, and depth maps from live-action stereo footage.
OCULA 2.1 adds the DisparityViewer node, allowing easy visualisation of disparity vectors, a range of improvements for dealing with footage from mirror rigs, multi-sampling for a general increase in visual quality and a host of other improvements.
Disparity maps track and correlate the differences in positional space and movement between corresponding pixels in the left and right cameras, delivering pixel-level control over images. Knowing where disparities occur, OCULA tools apply corrections by warping, stretching and squeezing only the areas of an image that require treatment. Image manipulation using disparity maps is different from the X, Y or Z-axis shifting of images, where only whole image planes are being shifted
OCULA plug-ins allow artists to apply a multitude of adjustments to stereo image pairs. All corrections can be made to the left and right eye channels either together or separately, minimising or eliminating discomfort from the stereo viewing experience.
fxguide article"Ocula is at the very heart of the new post-production tools that have emerged to deal with stereo. Nuke and Ocula were used extensively on Avatar, and we explore the lessons learned with Simon Robinson, Chief Scientist of the Foundry. Ocula, in particular, is a real partnership between filmmakers on the cutting edge and the UK software developer.
KEYLIGHT is an award-winning production-proven blue and green screen keyer. KEYLIGHT is simple to use and is particularly good at tackling reflections, semi-transparent areas and hair. Because spill suppression is built in, often selecting the screen colour is all you need to do to extract the matte and seat the foreground into the background so it looks photographed rather than composited.
KEYLIGHT has been refined over the years to make keying quicker and easier, whilst providing a depth to the tools that will tackle even the most challenging shots. The plug-in comes with a suite of tools to erode, soften, despot and otherwise manipulate the matte should the need arise, as well as the inclusion of separate colour correction, suppression and edge correction tools to fine-tune the result.
KEYLIGHT has undergone many improvements here at The Foundry. However, the original KEYLIGHT algorithm was developed by the Computer Film Company (now Framestore) and has been utilised over the years on hundreds of projects including Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, The Day The Earth Stood Still, Sherlock Holmes, 2012, Avatar, Alice in Wonderland, Percy Jackson, GI Joe and Clash of the Titans.
KEYLIGHT seamlessly integrates with some of the world's leading compositing and editing systems, including Autodesk Media and Entertainment Systems, Avid DS, Fusion, NUKE, Shake and Final Cut Pro. KEYLIGHT is also bundled with Adobe After Effects.
