Fusion 6.2 Ventures Deeper
Lateral thinking brings a different approach to generating volumetric effects and atmospherics. By putting these into the compositing phase, the production process provides far greater finishing artistry. The new Volume Mask tool, for example, is distilled from the Anonymous production to provide a versatile control over World Position Passes (WPP), to create volume fog, localized masking of 3D images for use in relighting and other effects in 3D.
Isolation of 3D areas within the images using the WPP, these remain fixed in moving scenes, so no animated masks or tracking is needed. These areas remain true to the 3D environment, even if the camera is moving.
The Fusion renderer outputs this expanded channel set, Fusion's extensive scene importing allows more control and workflow streamlining between 3D animation and compositing. Fusion renders those extra passes on the fly at lightning speed via GPUs so artists get what they need now.

Occluding using WPP gives the correct real world blending and fitting to the scene. This gives depth dependant results from the world point of view and not just the cameras point of view.

Relighting control takes a big step forward by coupling Fusion's model and scene importing and this versatile volume tool utilizing WPP, this taking finishing to a new level.
Fusion 6.2 Features
In addition to the advancements pioneered with Uncharted Territory, the development team at eyeon is always employed in the evolution of Fusion's already prolific toolset. Many upgrades have been executed to ensure the equanimity of both artist and studio. Following are some of the enhancements you can expect:
* Fusion x64 for Linux, this includes Open CL supercomputing.
* QuickTime support for Fusion x64, with support for Timecode, and greater than 8bit/channel codecs.
* Particle system updates with Particle Fuses and OCL Particle Fuses. Improved particle evaluation, providing more accurate and stable simulations.
* 3D Renderer Updated to render World Position Pass channels.
* WPP allows the artist to create a stereoscopic version from a single camera render.
* Updated RED R3D support to the latest version includes Epic and Scarlet support, as well as all the latest color science and controls.
*SVG importing, Scalable Vector Graphics, the open standard for 2D vector specs can be exported by a large array of applications and imported into Fusion.
* Open CL improvements including a new rays tool and ability to add a second low cost graphics card specifically for OCL supercomputing.
* Picking postion in 3D scenes or via WPP can be used for particle placements and object placements.

Exploiting the power of low cost GPU graphics cards with hundreds of cores, coupled with an expanded feature set, makes this release much more productive. The need for network rendering becomes greatly reduced, keeping the studio's infrastructure manageable and cost effective.
3D scene importing via FBX has been greatly expanded, streamlining the process between 3D animation and rendering to directly have the same assets working in Fusion. Produce passes and layers on the fly directly on the GPU at breath-taking speed. Cutting reliance on other applications and departments simplifies the production process.
Fusion accelerates from the starting line with astounding GPU optimizations, local file caches and particle solution caching. The creative horizon expands with new tools for managing grain, color correction and handling metadata. Scripter's will rejoice at the inclusion of native python support, and everyone benefits from the many enhancements to particles.
Relighting

Relighting has been pioneered in Fusion for well over 15 years from rich deep pixels and reshading tools to a full GPU renderer. In the 3D system has been greatly refined with full importing of scenes with matched animation curves, stereo cameras, and lighting and multi level materials from all the major 3D applications. The GPU render outputs multiple layer types for later processing at extraordinary speed. The ability to directly have scenes in the compositing artist hands opens up creative possibilities and relieves the dependence on other departments.
Now with Renderman renderer support via eyeon's open source SDK further demonstrates how productive, flexible and extensive the problem solving capabilities of Fusion have become.
